I have contemplated a lot about faith in the last few weeks. Many of my hopes and dreams are materializing, as I make connections and new opportunities appear. On so many levels, the transition from short days and winter hibernation move into spring, new growth flowering in the natural world surrounding us. This time of renewal encourages cultivation of ideas that form the foundation for conceiving and materializing life beyond our dreams.
Even though Spokane is blanketed in snow, my neighborhood has emerged to soak up the peaceful, sun-filled days. On one of my walks I was reminded of Indiana Jones as he encountered the pivotal point of crossing the abyss to reach his goal. His inspirational vision depicted a man seemingly flying towards the opposite side. He quickly realizes the test requires a “leap of faith.” I could feel the heart racing as he placed his hand over his chest and fell forward; to his surprise, he landed. Safely on the other side, he threw sand over the path and could then see through the illusion: he had crossed over an invisible bridge.
Another opportunity to contemplate faith emerged through Jill Renee Feeler’s podcast. She spoke of how we appear to arrive at a cliff at certain moments in our lives. I always imagined that if I took a chance and stepped off the edge, I would either soar – or, at the very least, somehow be caught on the way down into the unknown. She imagines it from a different perspective, asking, “What if there was no cliff?” What if that cliff is an illusion we created in order to stand still and avoid moving forward? I love to view and test ideas from various angles, and so I reimagine that cliff as simply a shimmering illusion that fades into the distance with each faithful, sure-footed step I take, revealing my hidden path.
Just this morning I came across another aspect of faith: a picture of stairs leading up into the clouds. The top of the stairs, and the destination, were unknown. As I pondered this image, I imagined how this was different from the other examples. From experience, as I take each step, the next is always revealed. And so, I wonder, what is this month’s message of faith?
What does faith feel like to me? It feels like fortifying strength: knowing, trusting, having confidence in moving forward. Moving past fear and stagnation, knowing that the universe is always conspiring through me and for me. Moving beyond the illusions of my limitations; taking each step, trusting in the work I’ve done in preparation for this journey. The wisdom I have cultivated along the way blossoms into my creation; seeds planted long ago, in anticipation of spring’s arrival and for this specific moment in time.
